Dr. Marshall Goodman will provide an overview of the polytechnic model,
its implementation by the University of South Florida, and its
relevance to Florida's economic development prospects. In the process
of providing this overview, the CEO of Florida's first public
polytechnic explains what a polytechnic is and why it matters to
students, parents and Florida businesses. The world is changing, and
this presentation provides insight into how those changes impact higher
education in the United States.

Dr. Marshall
Goodman, University of South Florida Polytechnic
Dr. Marshall Goodman relocated to USF
Polytechnic in Lakeland, Fla. from San Jose State University where
he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs as well as
special assistant to the President. Dr. Goodman is considered a
"rising star" in higher education. He brings energy,
vision and very specific experience with technology and public sectors
that play a crucial role in the growth of USF Lakeland and economic
stimulus to Polk County. He is a strong advocate for building
academic programs and community relationships that will sustain the
growth anticipated in Polk County over the next several years.
Dr. Goodman currently participates as a Board member in approximately
14 agencies and chambers, including CFDC, LEDC, Polk Vision, Lakeland
Chamber Chairman's Circle, Bartow Regional Medical Center and Polk
Museum of Art, to mention a few. He also hosts The Power of
Knowledge, a half hour radio show which airs every week, where he
invites guests to participate in conversations regarding education in
Central Florida.
His nearly 30 years of higher education experience includes key
administrative and academic roles at the University of Cincinnati,
Georgetown University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
He also has extensive experience in the area of economic development,
having played an active role in San Jose State's Silicon Valley service
area and in economic development initiatives in the Midwest.
While at UW-Milwaukee, Dr. Goodman served as special assistant to
the Governor of Wisconsin for globalization.
Dr. Goodman received his master's and doctorate from The Ohio State
University and his bachelor's degree from DePaul University. He
also completed honors work in politics, philosophy and economics at
Oxford University in England. He was a former member of the
NCAA's Committee on Academic Performance and former Lead Provost of the
Western Athletic Conference Academic Alliance. Dr. Goodman's work
has been published extensively in scholarly journals and he has
delivered more than 20 presentations and papers at academic
conferences.
